Show day dawned bright and sunny and stayed that way throughout the event and by the afternoon it was positively hot. Starting early in the morning willing hands set up the tents, tables, bunting, signs. Despite the terrible season and worries about attendance by mid-morning, entries had started to appear and as in previous years the competitiveness some of our fellow allotemters started to emerge. The number off entries was slightly dow on past years but the quality of produce was if anything higher. Once again the idea was to have a fun day, show off what we can produce, meet and chat with our fellow members and their families in a convivial atmosphere. The only rules as before-
- 1) All entries to have been produced in an allotment or garden within the society.
- 2) Everyone must have a fun time.
- 3) There is NO - rule number three!
All entries were in place by one o'clock.
At one o'clock the judge, Peter From Glebe Gardens, arrived and began his deliberations. The Show opened at two o'clock. There were already quite a few people there and they soon built to a satisfyingly proportioned gathering. All were eager to view the show tables and see if they had won. Saddly there were a few dissapointments but many happy winners.
At three o'clock, the cups for best and the most improved allotement and also the overall show winner were awarded.
The award ceremony was followed by drawing of the raffle for which many prizes had been donated by members then tere was an auction of show entries. The show drew to a close, the attendees wandered happily away the tents were struck and the 'showground' cleared. It was the end of a lovely day for all concerned.
Once again thanks go to Bob and Christine whose energy and vision drove the concept, to them Keith and other members of the committee for their efforts to make the vision a reality. Special thanks go to Peter from Glebe Gardens for the onerous task of judging. Thanks also go to those other helpers particularly Barbara for making the bunting and blowing up the balloons. To Margaret for helping with the tea to Glebe Gardens for sponsoring the event by generously donating 100 points to each of the category winners and to donors of prizes. Thanks also to Jude for helping to sponsor the event by making and donating the winner's rosettes.
Finally thanks go to all who participated and made the event great success it was.
